I currently have a hosting package/domain. If i cancel it, can i keep my domain emails?
February 4th, 2010 | by admin |
I currently have a hosting package/domain with dataflame.co.uk. I want to cancel my hosting package, but i want to keep my inclusive email addresses. Does anyone know if there is anyway i would be able to do this, or cancel it all and buy my email addresses back?
Thanks
As long as you own the domain name, i.e. www.mydomain.com, the e-mail address that you have george@mydomain.com will follow you to your new host. Any stored e-mails on your old host will need to be copied off before you cancel your account…
If you don’t own the domain, for instance, it’s a subdomain like myname.hostingcompany.com, you will not be able to keep the associated e-mail address…

I don’t think so. Unless you’re talking about the actual messages from those emails then yes you can put them on your local hard drive. but if you cancel hosting with any provider, the email that is linked to the hosting is going to be gone.

I don’t think you can, I’m with BT Yahoo and want to change to Sky but I too will lose all my email addresses which will mean expensive reprint of stationery so for now I can’t!

You can do it but not with your current hosting provider. You need to alter the MX record on the domain and point it to (a free host that will handle mail exchangers.)
There are lots of free DNS providers out there.
